Reimagining furniture
 as a canvas for storytelling

Across centuries, women have turned to textiles as a way to tell stories through thread.

UNCOMMON ANCESTOR is my way of continuing this tradition.

Specialising in Story Stools and Memory Boxes, I embroider meaningful symbols and personal motifs into the fabric of the furniture I design.

Introducing

The
Memory
Box

To celebrate the launch of the new Wunderkammer embroideries I’ve designed my very own cabinet of curiosities. Handcrafted from solid walnut with a bespoke embroidered lid, the Memory Box is designed to hold your most meaningful things.

Story
Stools

Story Stools and benches are a timeless celebration of your memories - a time capsule to be handed down through generations. The embroidered motifs draw inspiration from personal histories and historical iconography.

Jewellery Trays

Crafted from solid walnut and lined with a rich velvet insert, my jewellery trays feature delicately embroidered motifs. This first collection is centred on the Victorian language of floriography.

Uncommon Ancestor brings together illustration, furniture making and embroidery to create one-of-a-kind designs.

“The storytelling element is really central to the embroidery on my furniture. For my designs I’m quite literally stitching people’s memories into the fabric, so the end result becomes a time capsule.”
